Our feature film, Das Eskimobaby, will be preceded this week by a short film on 1940s life in Northwest Alaska, a terrain within the Arctic Circle where human life dates back over 6,000 years, and is aptly entitled Eskimo Hunters of Northwest Alaska. The film is somewhat of an updated version of Nanook of the North (our next Mush! To The Movies! feature) and follows a young boy and girl and their father as they go about their daily business, witnessing their triumphs and struggles in hunting. As you will see, the trading post plays a pivitol role in economics during this time, as animal skins and furs are exchanged for other goods in a hut somewhat like our very own Nova Tuskhut.
