Das Eskimobaby stars silent film diva Asta Nielsen, one of the first movie stars in film history. Between 1911 and 1914, Nielsen made more than 30 films in Berlin and established herself as an iconic physical comedienne. In this film, Nielsen's character, Ivigtut, experiences the unusual woes of an Arctic outsider among polite Berlin society after an explorer takes her back to his home in Germany. The Kinematograph Weekly called Nielsen's performance in Das Eskimobaby "...the best example of the mastery of all the opportunities afforded by screen acting."

Das Eskimobaby will be preceded by:

Eskimo Hunters of Northeast Alaska

1949, 20 min., b&w, sound, digital projection
Produced by Louis deRochemont, directed by Kay Norton.
Special thanks to Flicker Alley LLC
Screening of this film is sponsored by JKL Components Corporation

A team of filmmakers revisit the activities seen in Nanook of the North thirty years later and document igloos roofed with canvas, traditional song and dances taught in school houses, and crafts being exchanged for goods in a trading post (much like the daily activites of the Nova Tuskhut!).
