Effulgence of the North

(On View July 2007 - September 2017)

The first panorama on view at the Union Theatre was Effulgence of the North - a 360-degree painted panorama that explores the limitless horizon beyond a frigid terrain, illuminated by the ethereal Aurora Borealis. The panorama included an ongoing 35-minute cycle of subtly shifting light and sound, enhancing the immersive experience and drawing the visitor into a sublime illusory excursion to the mystical Frozen North.

Effulgence of the North closed for viewing on September 10th, 2017. The city celebrated it's closing with The Last Arctic Show - a variety show on September 9th, 2017. From September 9th, 2017 to June 1st, 2019, the Panorama Viewing Hall was closed for renovation and to make way for Shengjing Panorama. Tickets were sold to the exclusive worldwide debut, Shengjing Panorama Limited Express, on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

Panorama of the Valley Of The Smokes

(On view at the Tswuun-Tswuun Rotunda 2000-2004 - 5553 Hollywood Boulevard)

The magnificent Panorama of the Valley of the Smokes is a rendering of what California's Southland might have looked like 200 years ago. Upon entering the rotunda, visitors proceeded down a dimly lit hallway lined with amber glass sconces. Entering through a dark doorway, they were surrounded by the painting, illustrating sparse hillsides and windswept plains in muted yellow tones, and conveying a dramatic sense of otherworldly atmosphere. Emphasizing the beauty of the setting which drew people to the area long ago, the Panorama of the Valley of the Smokes suggests to viewers that this mysterious sensation still can be found in the landscape of Los Angeles.
