The Velaslavasay Panorama and The Stringed Crane Conservatory are pleased to invite you to a special vocal workshop with Berlin’s yodeling queen, Kutzkelina.

The nature of yodeling, being both dynamic and energy-efficient, has lent the technique to be utilized in communities across the globe – in solo and collective song and as a form of non-verbal communication projected over long distances. With Kutzkelina’s depth of knowledge and playful approach, this workshop will guide participants through the fundamental mechanics of yodeling, teach and foster experimentation with various singing techniques, and explore the expressive modes of their employment in cultural traditions ranging regionally from Japan to Belarus – diverse musical landscapes in which the yodel lives, uniquely.

**We recommend buying tickets in advance as spots are extremely limited.**

Kutzkelina

Kutzkelina is a multidisciplinary musician, composer, and actress based in Berlin. From her early childhood growing up in the dark forests of the Harz Mountains in the GDR, she has been singing and yodeling, as well as composing for a wide variety of musical projects that center around the voice. She founded Jodelschule Kreuzberg (Kreuzberg Yodel School) in Berlin, and travels worldwide teaching, as well as studying, yodeling and advanced vocal techniques, with a focus on the breaking of the voice in traditional music.

The Stringed Crane Conservatory

Physically situated in its saz (Anatolian stringed Instrument)-making workshop, the SCC aims to preserve, celebrate, and engage the public with underrepresented artistic and cultural traditions. It takes on, in its own way, the traditional saz-making workshop's role as a site of community, living culture, and cultural exchange by organizing performances, cinematic presentations, workshops, and discussions. Whether taking place within the walls of the workshop itself or beyond, SCC programming works to create unique opportunities for participants to engage in intimate community with traditional arts, practitioners, and each other.
