As part of the Friday Evening Public Performance Session of the 20th International Convention of the Magic Lantern Society of the US & Canada, Sara Velas and Ruby Carlson of the Velaslavasay Panorama will present:

Florence in Ruin—or—The Great Escape, a dual-projection slideshow on traveling while staying still. This experimental work-in-progress performance uses 35mm family archival slides and a donated collection of glass magic lantern slides to wander through imagery of distant spaces.

The Magic Lantern Society of the US & Canada’s 20th International Convention will be held on the historic art deco ship The Queen Mary and includes three days of authentic magic lantern performances, research & artist presentations, performance/technical workshops, puppet shows & more. Additional information can be found online here. A limited number of day passes are available. 

Friday evening, the “public show” is free with first come, first served limited seating.  There are many other activities, including bars and restaurants on the Queen Mary.
