Explore the gardens and grounds of The Velaslavasay Panorama to the tune of old and new down home classics. The LA Old Time Social is a three-day event featuring workshops and dances and culminating with the Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest on Sunday May 15th.

Earl White and Adrienne Davis are a dynamic duo who have been icons in the old-time music and dance community for more than a decade. Earl’s energetic fiddle style upholds the Appalachian tradition while adding his trance like sound and distinct bowing. He is well known for his extensive repertoire of traditional american fiddle tunes and songs.  Adrienne’s steadfast hand on the guitar completes their sound as she drives the bass notes and lays down rhythm. As a duet they perform concerts and instruct at many camps throughout the US.

Tom Marion & Frank Fairfield are friends and musicians.

Twins, Greg and Jere Canote, make their first Los Angeles appearance with their infectious fiddle tunes, nutty novelty numbers, and enthusiastic attitudes. Greg and Jere have been performing together since childhood, from their first-grade role as Christmas elves tap-dancing around the wishing well, to their thirteen-year stint as the affable sidekicks on National Public Radio’s Sandy Bradley’s Potluck. They have played for concerts, dances and musical events in forty-seven states and a few foreign countries. With guitar, fiddle, harmonica, ukulele, banjo, and genetically matched voices, these guys love to share what they do. Fiddle tunes are their first love, but they also sing together in the tradition of the brother duets. With a nod to the Vaudeville days, they are always eager to dip into their bag of tricks. For over thirty years, they have taught a thriving Seattle string band workshop and have been regular teachers at the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes, Rocky Mountain Fiddle Camp, Portland Uke Fest and many more.

Sausage Grinder (houseband for the evening), Los Angeles’ all-natural hillbilly and country blues band, combines the traditional sounds of fiddle and banjo breakdowns with the low-down sound of country blues, topped off with a touch of ragtime and hillbilly jazz. The versatile acoustic ensemble features fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, jug, washboard, and a few odds and ends.
