Artist and Velaslavasay Panorama Founder Sara Velas invites you into the fascinating world of panoramas, 360-degree landscapes once viewed from elevated platforms and originally patented in 1787 as immersive entertainment. For this special Coffee Talk, Velas shares the story behind her most striking panoramic installations, offers behind-the-scenes glimpses into their creation, and traces the rich history of this awe-inspiring art form.

The Ebell of Los Angeles was founded by women, for women in 1894 and remains dedicated to its original mission. At the first meeting under the leadership of founder and president Harriet Williams Russell Strong, the organizational purpose was adopted: “To interest women in the study of all branches of literature, art and science and the advancement of women in every branch of culture.”

The Ebell was declared a Los Angeles Cultural Historic Monument in 1982, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994 and designated an Official American Treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. An earlier location of the Ebell was a mile away from the Velaslavasay Panorama, at 1719 South Figueroa Street.
