The Velaslavasay Panorama is pleased to announce the long-awaited debut of The Grand Moving Mirror of California, a descendant of the mid-19th century moving panorama storytelling tradition. This exquisitely rendered painted scroll will be unrolled before an audience complete with live Foley effects, piano accompaniment and spoken narration, imparting an idea of the thrills and dangers undertaken on a seaboard trip around the South American continent to reach Gold Rush-era California.

Grand Moving Panorama of California is a two-hundred-and-seventy-foot-long painted landscape, depicting the early history of California and referencing elements of the landscape and culture as it exists today. On the voyage we encounter the rough seas at Cape Horn, early versions of today's California cities and famous natural treasures, and the people, landscapes and ports-of-call the original '49ers encountered on their journey to find their fortunes.

VPESC Announcement

All are invited to embark upon a culinary journey with the Velaslavasay Panorama Enthusiast Society Supper Club!

This one-night-only gathering is both a celebration of the unfurling of our moving panorama and a celebratory petition to raise funds for this project, which has been the focus of activity for The Velaslavasay Panorama over the past three years.

This fund-raising event features a preview performance of The Grand Moving Mirror of California paired with a selection of gourmet culinary delicacies prepared especially for this occasion by Chefs Scheherezade Daftary, Betsy Huff and Jaime Yamashita, who have generously donated their epicurean skills in service of the VPESC. This momentous gathering of music, oration, food and celebration will bring enthusiasts together for an evening of camaraderie and like purpose, with a hopeful eye toward the health of our Panoramic Enterprise and The Grand Moving Mirror of California.

Tickets for this evening with the VPES Supper Club are $75 or $55 for Velaslavasay Panorama Society Enthusiast Society members.
