Join artists Hillary Mushkin (Incendiary Traces), Elizabeth Chaney (Tijuana/UCSD), and Steve Rowell (Center for Land Use Interpretation); art historian Jason Weems (UC Riverside), creative researcher Aurora Tang (High Desert Test Sites); writer Janet Owen Driggs (Metabolic Studio); and cultural geographers Nick Bauch (CSU-LA) and Rick Miller (UCLA) for images and dialog on Los Angeles’ unique engagement with visual representation, military territorialization, and flora appropriation.

This program will offer historical and contemporary variations on how the palm-dotted landscape is represented for political and cultural purposes, while tracing assorted perspectives on landscape imagery that extend from 19th century drawing and painting practices.

This event is part of the Incendiary Traces project. To learn more, see the LA Forum for Architecture and Urban Design, and KCET Departures.

Duckbits is the female clown duo Ilana Gustafson Turner and Keirin Brown. Are We Not Human? incorporates moments of slapstick, dance, and pure tomfoolery against a backdrop of quiet, simmering absurdity that takes the audience on a journey through the stranger side of the human species. These two clowns speak to the childlike curiosity in us all, the people we would be if we never heard the word "no."
