The inaugural gathering of our Polar Film Club takes us far from the land of our Northern Nova Tuskhut & the 360-degree Effulgence of the North to the antarctic regions with two films to represent the turn-of-the-century race to the South Pole.

A documentary exploring the story of the ill-fated Terra Nova Expedition, Robert Falcon Scott’s voyage with his crew of 60 men to the South Pole in the years 1910-1913, as seen through the lens of Herbert Ponting.

Norwegian Roald Amundsen included a cinematographic camera on his expedition to Antarctica in 1910-1912 and a short stand-alone “cinema version” of this footage, with intertitles, was cut to appear in theatres.
