ELECTRIC SHADOWS ON PENGLAI MOUNTAIN
- a video tour of the series -
 

 

Summer 2021 welcomed the series "Electric Shadows on Penglai Mountain" made in collaboration with the Livonian Cinema to mark the 20th Anniversary of the Velaslavasay Panorama, the 2-year Anniversary of "Shengjing Panorama," and the 10th Anniversary of "Pursuing The Verdant Dream."

 

 

The series celebrated Chinese cinema with the seldomly screened films Spring In A Small Town 《小城之春》(1948), Scenes of City Life 《都市風光》(1935), and For Fun - Zhao Le《找乐》(1991).  The films were chosen for their shared themes present in Shengjing Panorama, mainly – scenes of everyday life, the commerce of entertainments and meditations on landscape.

 

During the intermission of For Fun, art critic and writer Debra Levine presented the panorama with this archival diploma from the 1952 graduating class at the Beijing Film Academy, where Ning Ying (director of For Fun) graduated from in the late 1970s. Ning Ying made three films about life in the rapidly changing city of Beijing, known as the "Beijing Trilogy."
